welcome to my woodturning page

No, I am not really smiling. It's probably just gas!I discovered woodturning rather late in life. If you΄ve ever heard the expression "I wish I had done this earlier", it certainly applies here. Although I have always dabbled in woodwork, there is a sense of peace while woodturning and sense of accomplishment at the end which is unparalleled. The ability to put tool to wood and produce something which is equally based on form and function while allowing a full gamut of personal artistic freedom is the most rewarding feeling you can have. After 10 years, I still enjoy all forms of woodturning to the extent that I have not decided on any one specific area I wish to specialize in. On this site you will find a little of everything and I am always open to new projects, whatever they might be, as long as turning is involved. Please enjoy the site.

a little more about me

I started making hobby furniture in the late 70's, mostly tables, chairs, bookcases, beds and various odds and ends using recycled or reclaimed lumber as much as possible. It may have been a little more work but I enjoyed adapting designs and techniques to using materials which had not originally been designed as furniture and in most cases where not built to be displayed, like pallets or automobile windshield crates. In addition to the low cost benefit, I derived particular pleasure in reshaping the materials to give them a second, more useful life.

In the late 1990's, I was finally introduced to woodturning. I was just about ready to quit when I had the opportunity to attend the Ottawa Woodshow in 2001. The work displayed was beyond anything I could have imagined. That year, I received a present of a 1 year membership.....
